Towards a
Digital Responsibility Index

While people grow more concerned about artificial intelligence, privacy, or online safety, they increasingly face an obstacle course of technical jargon and complex policies when trying to identify organisations with a trustworthy digital governance.

Identity Valley's Digital Responsibility Index aims to change this by creating clear, comparable scores that help users, decision-makers and investors make informed choices while giving organisations a practical path to demonstrate and improve their digital responsibility.

A meaningful Digital Responsibility Index requires a robust foundation. Through systematic analysis of academic literature, industry standards and policy guidelines, we identify key patterns of responsible digital governance along the lines of the Digital Responsibility Goals (DRGs). The resulting framework is refined through stakeholder engagement to ensure practical applicability, completeness and legitimacy.

I. Framework development

Organisations are evaluated using publicly available information and diagnostic tools, covering multiple dimensions of digital responsibility corresponding to the evaluation framework. The evaluation examines policies, practices, and measurable outcomes across areas such as cybersecurity, privacy or ethical technology use. Organisations are asked to verify findings and provide additional information to ensure accurate scoring.

II. Evaluation process

Each individual evaluation provides dimension-specific and overall digital responsibility scores, helping organisations track progress, benchmark against peers, and showcase responsible digital practices. A dynamic leaderboard highlights top performers worldwide and by sector, while a digital responsibility badge offers transparent verification - boosting user trust and confidence in an organisation's digital governance.
